Creating Live Linux USB
I will be going through the steps of creating Linux live USB, you can do the same with other Linux, and you can send me at elhassan.ahmed@csi.cuny.edu or Professor Orit at orit.gruber@csi.cuny.edu if you are having trouble finding any of the software I mention in here or the installation process.
In Linux live USB, the overall space you end up with will be less than the space you will get if you installed Linux to the USB.
Live CD normally loses all the data after exiting the OS however we are using USB so we will create a persistent space, if we do not create persistent space every time you exit the OS you will lose all data
You can follow the tutorial in
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
What you will need to install Ubuntu:
- You will need a flash drive with at least 12 GB of free memory
- You will need to get the iso for the Linux you want to install (in this case Ubuntu), you can get it from, (in this case I recommend using Universal USB Installer):
- Lunch Universal USB
Creating Live Ubuntu USB:
- You should see:

- The program can download some of the Linux OS if you do not have it, pick the one you want
- Locate the image for it in your computer
- Select the driver associated with your flash drive
- Pick the persistent space (how much are you going to have after the installation)
- Click create button to create the flash drive
